Huts, cols & altitudes
Robert Louis Stevenson's 1878 donkey journey: from Le Puy-en-Velay across the Velay plateau (Le Monastier, Le Bouchet-Saint-Nicolas, Pradelles, Langogne), the Gévaudan (Cheylard-l'Évêque, Notre-Dame-des-Neiges abbey, La Bastide-Puylaurent, Chasseradès, Le Bleymard), over Mont Lozère by the Sommet de Finiels, down to Le Pont-de-Montvert and Florac, and through the Cévennes to Saint-Jean-du-Gard. Weather risk is wind, fog and cold on the open Lozère plateau, and in autumn the Cévenol episodes: torrential Mediterranean rain that floods rivers and fords on the southern stages.

- How is the GR70 — Chemin de Stevenson score calculated?
- Hourly forecasts for every waypoint, corrected to its real altitude (MET Norway Locationforecast), feed six factors: weather on the cols (wind, cold, cloud, thunderstorms), snow and avalanche danger, rain against published European landslide thresholds, trail weather, views and access. Météo-France orange/red warnings, flood vigilance and credible closure reports cap the score.
